Image and Voice
Age: —
Artist Statement
“Image and Voice”is a sculptural work composed of 64 dye-infused aluminum cards, containedwithin a transparent acrylic box measuring 12 x 12 x 5 inches. Each card features an abstract image derived from Self-Portrait in Red and Blue, a 2019 diptych ink painting created on handmade paper in my former home in Styria, Austria.
These cards traveled with me between Austria and the United States during the pandemic, carrying both physical and symbolic weight. In its presentation within the Origin Stories Project exhibition, the artwork reveals fragments of the original image while the stacked cards evoke the visual essence of a voice recording.
For me, coming to America symbolizes becoming the voice of an ancestor—expanding the horizons of those I hold dear back home, especially my nephews. This work bridges personal narratives across continents, merging image and voice as echoes of identity and transformation
